Right Relations Committee

The Right Relations Committee helps members adhere to the Covenant and assists in settling disputes with compassion and commitment to our UU principles. You can reach the Right Relations Committee by email at rightrelations@neighborhooduu.org.

Finance Committee

The Neighborhood Unitarian Universalist Church (NUUC) Finance Committee is a Board-appointed committee that reports directly to the Board and the congregation. Current members of the committee are: Andy Eaton (Treasurer/chair), Randy Baer, Debbie Bieber, Dave Kronberg, Elizabeth Sadlon, Anne Thorward, Trina Unzicker and Samantha Westcott. Staff support is provided by Elizabeth Richer Campo, Director of Operations.

The Mission of the NUUC Finance Committee is to be good stewards of the church’s financial resources. The committee’s primary responsibility is to ensure responsible financial practices so the church can provide and sustain service to the community.

This responsibility is achieved via the following actions:

1. Create and monitor annual budgets together with the Operations Manager.

2. Develop and review ongoing and multi-year financial projections together with the Operations Manager.

3. Safeguard church financial assets.

4. Review and submit periodic financial reports and recommendations to the congregation and Board of Trustees.

5. Establish practices and provide data to support the annual pledge drive and other fundraising activities.

6. Interface with the planned giving/endowment committee regarding endowment practices.

7. Develop, recommend and implement financial practices relevant to all aspects of the financial health of NUUC including but not limited to investments, endowments, gift acceptance, restricted funds, and reserves.

8. Administer other financial tasks as requested from the congregation or the Board.

Why would you like to serve on the Finance Committee?

When did you join the church?

A minimum of two years' membership at Neighborhood Church is preferred, but not required. You may reach out to the church office if you're unsure about the date of your membership.

Did you pledge for the current year?

You must be a pledging member of Neighborhood Church to join the Finance Committee.

Did you pay your pledge for the prior year?

Are you prepared to participate in meetings twice a month with additional activities to support the work of the committee?

During the initial stage, the Finance Committee will likely meet twice a month, with activities in between meetings. After the initial stage, we expect routine meetings to be monthly or quarterly.

Are you prepared to make a two year commitment to the Finance Committee?

For continuity, we ask that Finance Committee members commit to participate for at least two years. We recognize that life circumstances can change in ways that impact a sincerely-made commitment.

Please indicate if you commit to meeting the following expectations:

I will serve the congregation's mission above all other agendas and advocate for the whole. I will support the Board in its final determination of financial practices. I recognize that serving on the Finance Committee implies fiduciary responsibility. I will bring strong listening and communication skills. I will bring specific experience with some element of financial management.

Each committee member brings relevant and concrete skills, knowledge, and experience to the work. Skills and training that are beneficial among members include but are not limited to the following: Development of budgets and monitoring adherence to budgets Monitoring of investment returns Development of financial policies Specific experience with endowments Management of a small business, nonprofit, or department Knowledge of church administration gained through past leadership within Neighborhood Church, ideally in multiple roles

Board officers will review applications and if necessary, schedule follow up interviews with proposed committee members.
